01

Who she is

Dr. Francesca Musiani is a Research Director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and has served as Director of the Centre Internet et Société (CIS) since 1 January 2025. The CIS is a CNRS research unit that studies digital technology, the internet and society through an interdisciplinary lens.

Her research addresses internet governance, decentralised and distributed internet architectures, and socio-economic approaches to privacy-enhancing technologies including encryption and privacy by design. It also includes work on the development and use of encryption in messaging systems.

02

Why her work matters to the mission

VENTEX is working toward European digital infrastructure that combines security, privacy, user control and technological sovereignty. Dr. Francesca Musiani’s research addresses many of the same broader questions from an academic and societal perspective: how secure communication systems are governed, how decentralisation and infrastructure change control and dependency, and how privacy can be embedded into technical architecture rather than added later.

Her support relates to this broader mission — not to a technical assessment of VENTEX Connect.
